Help & Manual – Leading Help and Documentation Tool
Review by on
Via a user friendly interface the Help & Manual application provides access to powerful functionality that technical writers and software developers are sure to appreciate. Creating help, documentation, and manuals for software applications is what this application was built for and it is so well built that you will be able to come up with professional looking documentation without going though a sharp learning curve.

Help & Manual can be installed on a PC powered by Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. For that PC to be able to run the application, it must meet the following hardware requirements: 2GB of RAM memory or more, 200MB of free disk space, monitor capable of 1024x768 resolution. A straightforward setup wizard will guide you through the process of installing Help & Manual on your PC; you will get to choose between a custom, compact, and a full installation (includes application files and online help, image plugins, example help projects).

Links to all the features and functions Help & Manual has to offer are conveniently placed on the ribbon at the top of its interface. Or to put it in other words, this application uses a ribbon interface. You can choose one of three color schemes for the ribbon: Sky Blue, Obsidian Black, and Pearl White. If you want to focus on your work and you feel that the ribbon is in the way, you can minimize it with a simple mouse click.

A few examples are included in the Help & Manual application. You are well advised to check them out if you want to quickly get accustomed with the functionality the application has to offer. According to the developer, even though Help & Manual has a lot of functionality to offer, you should start seeing results in about 20 minutes. As mentioned above, the interface is user friendly and makes it quite easy to access all the powerful features Help & Manual has to offer.

Speaking about that, here’s a quick look at Help & Manual's main features: it supports all standard Windows help formats; supports multiple table-of-content and build conditions on chapter, topic and text level; team authoring and multi-user editing; version control; translation and localization; fully customizable HTML and PDF templates; skins for HTML-based output. And if you get the Premium Pack, you also get advanced skins for webHelp, CHM, smartphone, and the iPAD.

Help & Manual is not free, it is only free to try, meaning that you can use the application for free for a trial period of 30 days. Contact the developer, request a trial extension, and you can use the application for much more than 30 days.

You will be hard pressed indeed to find a tool that’s as good as Help & Manual.

The system requirements for running Help & Manual can easily be met by a modern PC. You can choose between a custom, compact, and full installation. Some example help projects are included with the application. You can change the color scheme for the ribbon interface and you can minimize the ribbon. You’re provided with a long list of powerful features for creating help and documentation. Help & Manual isn’t difficult to use, even though it is a powerhouse.

Free to use for a trial period of 30 days (the trial period can be doubled or made even longer without any hassles).
